Use multiple customer account types!

Customers, ecommerce, liquid, shopify -

Use Case

This brief but useful tool will show you how to take advantage of Shopify's native customer account tags, allowing you to create content for different customer types!

Motivation

I have implemented this multiple times for customers who specifically wanted to cater to wholesale customers on their website. Firms like JerkyXP treated this by creating a second Shopify store specifically for their wholesale customers.

This is unnecessary, since we only have to load content based on which tags a particular customer has!

Example

Below, you'll see a short GIF demonstrating this liquid code hard at work.

shopify customer account type

The code

This one is pretty simple, since all you're doing is taking advantage of a pre-built Shopify feature. It does, however have a very nice advantage over other liquid variables like product, since customer persists on every page.

Check out a simple example at work below:

   {% if customer.tags contains "VIP" %}
   <h1>Congratulations, you are a VIP customer!!!</h1>
   {% endif %}

Implementation

Paste the code virtually anywhere in your theme and you'll get the output result. See below for an example implementation.

shopify customer account type

Enjoy!
